Literary Park
A Monument to Identity, Legacy,
and Voice in Oklahoma City
Located at the corner of Second and Russell Perry in Oklahoma City’s historic Deep Deuce neighborhood, the Ralph Ellison Literary Park is a visionary new public space that pays tribute to the life and legacy of one of America’s greatest authors.
Born just blocks away, Ralph Ellison’s groundbreaking work—including his novel Invisible Man—forever changed the literary landscape. Now, this park will make his presence felt where it all began.

about the campaign
A Monument That Moves You
Conceived by architect and artist Alanna Brehm, AIA, the design of the park draws from Ellison’s iconic “invisible man” metaphor and Oklahoma’s elemental power—the wind. It blends sculpture and light to create a space that feels alive and responsive.
Why Build a Ralph Ellison Monument in OKC?
Though internationally revered, Ralph Ellison has yet to receive the full recognition he deserves in his hometown. The Ralph Ellison Literary Park changes that—reclaiming his legacy for Oklahoma and placing it at the center of public dialogue, artistic expression, and civic identity.
Built on a long-overlooked site in Deep Deuce that overlooks Ralph Ellison’s birthplace, the park becomes a place of convergence: for education, for tourism, for storytelling. Here, Ellison’s metaphors take shape in space and light—offering students, neighbors, artists, and travelers a living tribute and daily inspiration.
